8" NB5 Series Subwoofer by Prodigy Audio™

The NB5 series 8 inch is a 800 watt rms subwoofer. Starting with the motor design, we spent a lot of time optimizing the design to incorporate a large inner pole, upper and lower, Faraday shorting ring which helps to reduce any distortion caused by inductance throughout the movement range of the cone. We chose a 2.50 diameter coil that has a very long winding width, with the wire being made of flat aluminum. Overall, they have 15mm of excursion one way at 70% BL and have a 28mm of X-mech forward and 50mm downward x-mech clearance before soft parts crash into hard parts. The motor has 180 ounces of ferrite rings and utilizes a vented pole design with coil gap radial vents for moving heat quickly out of the gap. Mated to the motor is a heavy duty cast aluminum frame that serves as an excellent heat exchanger. As the motor gets hotter the mass of aluminum helps to dissipate the overall heat. Nomex spiders with heavy stitched in tinsel leads connect with the competition grade treated paper cone, and the heavy-duty foam surround that complete the make-up of this woofer.
